It’s gardening time!
In anticipation of beautiful flowers and tasty vegetables, we search for those wonderful seeds that will bring about our expectations. We watch dutifully for that first tiny green to emerge from the soil. It is the hope for fulfillment of our plans and dreams!
Seeds; just tiny, dead-looking bits that do not equate with the size they will become. Though they seem insignificant, they hold the ability to become powerhouses and to regenerate that very plant for next year with the abundance of seeds that they will produce. They are not stingy or lazy in keeping their lineage going.
As we think of the garden seeds, it makes me think of another type of seed. God’s word, the Bible, is referred to as seed. Every seed has in itself a germinating principle. In it the life of the plant is enfolded. So there is life in God’s word. Christ says, “The words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are life.” John 6:63. “He that heareth My word, and believeth on Him that sent Me, hath everlasting life.” John 5:24. God’s word has power. He who by faith receives the word is receiving the very life and character of God.
Every seed brings forth fruit after its kind. Sow the seed under right conditions, and it will develop its own life in the plant. Receive into the soul by faith the incorruptible seed of the word, and it will bring forth a character and a life after the similitude of the character and the life of God.
While digging in the soil and admiring your beautiful gardens, keep heavenly thoughts in your mind too. Contemplate the joy and contentment you can have by your character being regenerated by the power of God’s seed, His word! While our newly planted seeds need careful watchfulness and watering, while the new plants growing need tending daily, so with the seed of God growing in us. It must be a daily tending, a reading of God’s word and talking with God in prayer. In this way that new plant of God’s character will grow and be strong. And as the tiny seed, it produces more seeds. We too are made to reproduce God’s seed; to teach our children of His promises and share with others. In this way that one tiny seed planted in your heart can produce many seeds that will grow and produce still more seeds!
Happy Gardening, physical and spiritual.
